AOB2- 1st Meeting with client

I have had a meeting with the client about the possible ideas that I could use to promote my film "Dead forest'. Durning the meeting it became clear that the best way of promoting the film would be to make a film poster, a DVD case and a website. The client advice was to have a good look at some of the other similar examples to be the building bricks for my first ideas. He also suggested about including the main stars and main events as a big feature of the promotions.

AOB1-DVD case analyses

I am now going to look at the DVD packaging case for The Knight Rises. This is an action crime thriller which I have seen and know a little about.

Purpose
The purpose of this artwork on this case is to advertise the film, attract the attention of shoppers in a store, shopping website etc. It is there for decoration and to make the case appealing to the eye. It provides the institutional information that may be of interest to some people, this is always in very small size of text because its not of interest to most people.  There will also probably be some legal requirement that states that this sort of information be included. The purposes of the DVD case is also to provide an small insight into the film and entice people to buy and watch it.

Target Audience
The audience this case is trying to attract is fans of the other batman films who have seen and enjoyed the other two films in the trilogy and also the hurdens of other batman films. It is also trying to attract fans of the several different very famous actors and actress like Christian Bale and Morgan Freeman as these names are shown clearly in the blurb along with the characters that they play and these same names on the top of the fount. The age categories is 12+.

Content
The whole of the front page is covered in a image of 'Batman' standing in front of several police cars with the batman logo growing behind him. At the middle bottom is a one word quote 'unmissable'.

AOB1- Film Advert Analysis

The film advert is for 'x-men origins' and is featured in a magazine called 'Empire'. This is a film with characteristics of a fantasy action adventure genre of film. From this the audience would expect to see action, adventure and fighting with superpower newtons focusing on a well known character of 'Wolverine'.

The mise-en-scene has all the main x-men in front of a city with 'Wolverine' right in the middle of the picture as he is the main focus of the film and it is his story like the title suggests. All the characters are showing off their super ability with their facial expression and hand movements. In the image the colour does a horse-shoe with the lighter bit in the middle focusing in on 'Wolverine'. The title, like the image, is in a blue colour that goes to a white in the middle part and then getting darker into the blue. The characters are wearing clothes that give something away about their personality and how this adds to their super ability as well as their facial expression. There is a need to know a little bit about the film to understand why some of the characters are pictured as they are. This is in a line with other older x-men movies that changes are viewers will have watched and as such know about the characters before hand. The actions of the characters will remember people of that character.

This advert focuses on the main stars of the show the x-men as it about them more of 'Wolverine' the real main star. The layout gives the message of the main x-men and the location of where the story is going to take place giving the audience an insight into it. The typeface for the title put close together with a gab between the 'X-men' writing 'Wolverine' image and the origins, 'Wolverine' writing is along the bottom of the advert with the letters placed further apart. This was chosen to focus in on 'Wolverine'.

The target audience are fans of the 'x-men' films who have enjoy watching the other films also fans of the actors and people who generally like this genre of film. The age range would be between 13-40 years old. The target audience is obviously from the images and colours used on the advert would appeal to this audience.

The advert uses various ways of getting people go and see the film by having the realise date at the bottom for people to see it earlier but not as a main figure. It also has the main stars and audience members will see their favourite actors and go and see it based them liking that actor. The advert shows of the genre of the film and that the main character all have super-powers and as such attracting people who like superhero type movies.

In my opinion, the unique selling point of this film is a number of factors. One being the fact that is is based on the Marvel Comics' fictional character Wolverine and so this will attract fans of the Marvel Comics' and their super hero's. Another selling point is the mention of X Men, there has been a number of these films and followers of the X Men will want to see this film. The cast of well known actors is also a great way of selling a film. From looking at the poster you can expect to see fantasy film full of action and delight. Through the poster attention is gained by having 'Wolverine' in the middle and the female x-men Kayla Silverfox looking sexy attracting the male audience. The characters have clear facial expressions that would attract people to.

AOB1-Film Poster analysis

The second graphics design product that I'm going to analyse is a movie poster. The movie is called 'Wrong' and until carrying out this analysis, I knew nothing about the film. I chose this poster because it caught my eye and I find it interesting.

Purpose
The purpose of this poster is to advertise the film and promote in order to encourage people to go and see the film. It needs to catch the eye of passers-by and make them stop and look at the poster.

Target Audience
The target audience will be any film goer who generally like this sense of comedy drama. Also any one interested in the work of this particular director or maybe fans of the actor/s starring in the film. The film may also appeal to animal lovers, in particular dog lovers, as there is mention of a dog in the film synopsis.

Content
A image of a man head is right in the middle of the page. The whole of the area from the top of this is a hole showing a image of a brain with dog eyes and nose coming out of it. In the background to this head image is the picture of the sky that is green blue in colour and is lighter at the top and bottom with the darker bit in the middle. At the top of the sky the blue green goes into a yellow colour of the sun at the bottom the green blue colour goes into more of a green white colour of the land. There is very little writing on the poster, the only writing being at the top of the page with a one line comment by Twitch Film. It also contents the copyright info at the bottom of the face and a website under that in the middle.  This is a convection of most film posters. The head is the main feature of the poster as it is a big clue to give the audience an idea of what the film could be about without giving too much away.

Format
The format for this is in A4 paper.

AOB1- Website Analyse

The purpose
The purpose of the film website is to promote the film, provide information about the film and entice people into going to see the film. On the home page, right in the middle of the screen is a loop of extreme close up shots of the main characters faces. This shows their facial expressions and gives the viewer an idea of the personality of the character, e.g. a good guy, bad guy, serious guy etc. For example Gollum looking menacing and evil. They relate well to how the readers of the book and viewers of the LOTR series know the characters to be like. The film title is at the bottom middle of the page under the character face which is unconventional of most other film posters. It is in the same font style as of the LOTR. Because it is a story that are well known and read by many meaning that the title does not need to be in a prominent position. There is obviously a visual hierarchy and the film title is less important than the images of the characters.

Target Audience
The target audience is segmented in that the website is available in different languages and there is an option to access the worldwide release dates from the UK site that I am analysing. The film will be of interest to a broad audience in that it will appeal to Lord of the Rings fans, readers of the Hobbit book and people of all ages who are interested in this type of fantasy story. From the website, it is clear who the main actors are and so this will target fans of an actor e.g. fans of Martin Freeman would probably go to see the film because he plays a character in the film.  The website is clear and easy to follow and this would be a positive factor for young and old alike. The film would be something that a grandparent is likely to take a grandchild to and I think that the website is user friendly for old and young alike.

Content
As for content, there is a navigation bar on the top of the website directing you to each of the pages. The text on this navigation bar is a normal serif type font and this is gold in colour (representing the colour of the ring in the story) with a green brown background like the colour of a forest.  On each page is a loop link directing the audience to a trivia page, wallpaper download and other links. The title for this is in the same font and colour with a different background image related to the trivia. The title of the film is in a font called 'ring bearer' and is gold in colour, representing the colour and the idea of the ring. The font of the Hobbit title has the appearance/texture of an old dented ring and this also is relevant to the story.

Format
The resolution of this webpage is 72 dpi. This is normal format for a website.
